Fumio Kishida consistently described Taiwan as an “extremely important partner” that shares fundamental values with Japan, including freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. He publicly reaffirmed the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait on multiple occasions, including during meetings with the Chinese leader and at international summits. This stance signifies a firm position by Japan, as Kishida's government has also engaged in increased defense cooperation and emphasized the shared anxiety over China's regional expansion and shifting power balance.
